Homework

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned Monday to Thursday.  Friday homework is generally not prescribed but may be given at the discretion of the teacher e.g. corrections, completions or missed work.  Teacher may allow homework free nights on special occasions or as a reward.

Homework should consist of a balance of oral work, learning and written tasks.  Reading and learning are equally as important as written work.  Parents should direct an equal amount of time to these areas.  Homework should generally consist of spellings, reading, words, written exercise, research, completing class work e.g. essays.

How Long?

Infants            < 20 minutes (mainly oral based)

1st and 2nd       up to 30-35 minutes

3rd and 4th       40-45 minutes

5th class           1 hour

6th class           1 to 1 hr 15 minutes

Homework is targeted at the average student in the class.  It must be clear that students work at different rates.  Some students will complete the work in the allocated time while it may take others a shorter or longer time.  If you find homework is becoming a stressful occasion, or taking too long in general, please contact the class teacher as this may be easily resolved.

Homework will be written into homework journals or sent home via Aladdin in Infant classes.
