About Us
Saint Patrick's National School is a coeducational Roman Catholic primary school situated in the heart of the historic parish of Monasterboice, approximately 6 km north of Drogheda on the east coast of Ireland. Our school comprises both mainstream and special classes, catering to pupils from the surrounding hinterland.
Our current enrolment is 184 pupils. The school employs seven mainstream class teachers, two special class teachers, three special education teachers, nine special needs assistants, and an administrative principal. The teaching staff are supported in their work by Mary McCabe, our school secretary, and Ken Smyth, our caretaker.
In our school, pupils experience a warm, caring environment where moral values such as honesty, justice, fair play, respect, sensitivity to others, and civic responsibility are nurtured and protected.
The subjects taught in the school are Mathematics, English, Gaeilge, Music, Visual Arts, P.E., History, Geography, Science, Drama, S.P.H.E., and Religious Education. Pupils from Third to Fifth class attend swimming lessons in Drogheda, and other activities offered during the school year include Gaelic football, soccer, basketball, yoga, and gymnastics.
The school also participates in local football, athletics, art, and quiz competitions. After-school activities include football training. We were all delighted when we were awarded our first Active Flag in May 2024. We have extensive playgrounds, a football field with a walkway around the perimeter, and a large school hall that we use for P.E., assemblies, and school concerts.
The Board of Management of Saint Patrick's National School is supported by an active Parents' Council. Philip King is the chairperson of the Board of Management. The principal of the school is Mrs. Amanda Rowland, and the deputy principal is Ms. Anne Boland.
